Meet the Artist:
AiB in Conversation with Ron Klein
Wednesday, July 1, 2020
For this week’s Meet the Artists: AiB in Conversation we are speaking with sculptor Ron Klein. Klein’s sculptures bring together industrial and natural materials in beautifully composed assemblages that combine objects from travels in his own backyard and the remote rainforests of South America. Using these travels as inspiration, Klein says “I am searching for the order in chaos, and the chaos in order. Nature’s symmetry of order, juxtaposed with the opposing force of industrial objects helps reconcile my concerns and delineate the fine line separating one from the other." Join us to learn more about his adventures sourcing materials for his work, and the intricate nature in which he installs and realizes them on site.
Klein’s passionate eye for the material of the natural world has taken him to far flung places like Madagascar, Burma (Myanmar), Amazonian and Costa Rican rainforests; with the same eye and intensity he mines the urban jungle, his own neighborhood streets and woods. Ron Klein began exhibiting publicly in 1984. Since 2006 Ron Klein is presented by Howard Scott Gallery, New York. His work is held in a number of private and public collections. Discussions and reviews of his work have been appeared in such publications as Art in America, The Village Voice, Sculpture Magazine, and Art Forum.
Meet the Artist: AiB in Conversation is sponsored by the Time Equities Inc. (TEI) Art-in-Buildings. TEI is committed to enriching the experience of our properties through the Art-in-Buildings Program, an innovative approach that brings contemporary art by emerging and mid-career artists to non-traditional exhibition spaces in the interest of promoting artists, expanding the audience for art, and creating a more interesting environment for our building occupants, residents, and their guests.
